St. Francis Day and The Blessing of the Animals,
a day to remember!
(October 3, 2010)
Blessings abounded on October 3 as humans and animals
converged on the campus at St. Francis of Assisi in celebration of our patron saint of all creation – animals, insects,
birds, fish, plants and every living thing. The Annual Blessing of the Animals
was a huge success with over 200 in attendance. Children and adults alike enjoyed
Noah’s Little Ark Petting Zoo, the parade and blessing of animals, free
pet photos, kids’ activities and multiple exhibits including the Chattanooga Zoo, McKamey Animal Care, the Humane Society
and KinderMusik to name but a few. Fun was had by all!
Thanks to Joan Rose and the many hands that helped. From start to finish,
it was an event to remember!

St. Francis Day 2009 ....
St. Francis Day was a great success thanks to Joan Rose and her staff
Where were they? They were attending the Annual Blessing of Animals at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal
Church during St. Francis Day on Sunday, October 4th. The Rt. Rev.
Charles G. vonRosenberg, III Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee presided over the annual blessing. The short liturgy to celebrate creation included the blessing of all living things – including all
of the guests listed above!
The campus of St. Francis was turned into a festive site
with both 2-legged and 4-legged guest participating in the parade of animals. The
youngsters enjoyed petting Percy the Pot Bellied Pig - who was enjoying all of
the attention and did not want to get back in the truck at the end of the day. The
young gathered under a tent and participated in storytelling; others elected to participate with Kinder Musik’s demonstrations. The older guests (both two and four legged) chose to stroll the campus and just
enjoy the St. Francis Day music!
